Here at the Lanarkshire Health Promotion Resource Library
we provide public access to the Internet. Recently our plan to buy two
new computers has been blocked by the IT Dept because it is feared that
the Health Board may at some future date be held liable by some of our
users committing a criminal act via the internet using our computers.
Has anyone out there encountered a similar problem, does anyone know of
any means of protecting libraries from this kind of liability?
What legislation could the Health Board be charged under?
I know most medical libraries and public libraries offer this service
and we ourselves have been offering this service for over a year and
we have not any problems....other than the antique! computer which we
are
using hence the urgent need for new computers!!!
Any thoughts, comments! solutions!
Thank you in anticipation
