The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) produces evidence
based clinical practice guidelines. Each guideline is based on a systematic
review, involving an extensive literature search. A vacancy has arisen for
an assistant information officer to take on some of this work.
THE JOB. The principal task will be to undertake a number of large, multi
database, literature searches. The post holder will be expected to help
define the questions to be addressed by the searches, design and execute
suitable search strategies, and maintain records of search procedures and
strategies. There will also be some involvement in acquiring and organising
documents required by guideline development groups. There may also be an
opportunity to contribute to development of the SIGN Web site.
THE PERSON: Preference will be given to candidates with a background in
library or information work. Some experience of searching online databases
is essential. Knowledge of the medical literature or medical databases
would be advantageous, but is not essential.
This post is offered on the basis of an initial six month contract, ending
on 31 March 2000. The salary will be based on an annual rate of £15,462
(point AL1.1)
