One idea is to speak with your local Head of IM&T to see how you might be
able to contribute to the process of development of the Local Implementation
Strategy (LIS) which all local health communities are required to be
developing as the first step in the local implementation of the new NHS
Information Strategy. (See HSC 1998/225 for details)
It is the responsibility of each HA to facilitate the development of their
LIS (sorry about the acronym co-inciding with Library and Information
Services), but they need to engage other local partners - Trusts etc. One
element involves thinking about the shape of a future health informatics
service in the local community - which can include library and knowledge
management services - so there's a very real contribution that library staff
can make.
See http://www.imt4nhs.exec.nhs.uk/implement/index.htm for more details
about the LIS.
