THROUGH TWO PAIRS OF EYES : A Comparative Study of Danish Social Policy and
Child Welfare
1999, 178pp. Aalborg University Press.
ISBN 87-7307-620-1. ISSN 1399-1744.
This book seeks to provide a comparative analysis of child welfare in
Denmark using a research method which is innovative on two counts. First,
it is based on semi-structured interviews with a wide range of people
involved with Danish child welfare and it then compares each of the stories
told to see points of conjunction and disjunction between them. The second
innovative feature of the study is to subject this raw material to two
separate interpretations by each of the co-authors. These two
interpretations are then compared and various possible explanations for the
patterns emerging are discussed.
Thus in terms of both research process and analytical content , this volume
makes an original and important contribution to the field of comparative
welfare studies. The book will be of great value to academics, students and
practitioners in the fields of child care, social policy, social work,
social care and comparative studies.
