People and organisations: perspectives on the management of
change
Kimberlin Library,
De Montfort University Leicester
17 February 1999, 10.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.
A meeting held jointly by the Library Association Personnel, Training and
Education Group and the East Midlands Section of UC&R
More than ever before our organisations are changing - constantly -
certainly in terms of technology and resources, but more fundamentally in
terms of our external environment, our organisation and purpose.
'Effective change management' is described as a key competence in more and
more job descriptions, but what does than mean?
This full-day meeting will draw together theoretical and practical aspects
of the management of change in academic libraries today. Drawing speakers
from both academic library management and practising researchers, we hope
that the day will offer accounts of the ways change has been achieved in
very different organisations, and evidence on the personal issues raised
by working in an organisation which is changing.
Although the majority of speakers will be referring to academic libraries,
there will be material of relevance to anyone who is involved in managing
or working in a library or information service going through a period of change.
