Hello Chris
If I remember rightly, there is a reading chair such as you describe
in the Library at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders, and that it
is illustrated in the guidebook to Traquair (I have been trying to
find my copy at home, without success so far)
John Gloag illustrates reading chairs from earlier sources in
'Georgian Grace' (1956) p. 198 and in 'Victorian Comfort' (1961) p
79. The former is designed by Sheraton for sitting on back-to-front.
Apologies of you have these references already.
Best wishes,
Peter
