Yvonne:
I had a pack of papers from Stephanie this morning which I imagine
you've had too. Delighted to see your name on the list: looks quite a
select group of attenders, not many of them known to me - but Ronald
Milne (Research Support Libraries Programme, ex-KCL) is a good chap, and
Reg Carr (Bodley's Librarian, formerly Brotherton) knows his stuff too.
I've looked through the papers quickly and don't see anything very
startling: the important thing will be to learn how things may get taken
forward. For many HLF members the question is likely to be "How do we
get covered if we are independent libraries outside the major fundable
groups?" - those in HE will come under the RSLP & other initiatives,
cathedral libraries are being talked to by ESTC (but only in respect of
pre-1801 material, I'd guess), the NT has its own projects (does the
NTS?); but learned society libraries, subscription libraries, parish
libraries, private historic houses etc. will have to do their own thing
- and because of their rich collections it is important for the FDIG to
think about ways of bringing them in.
Let me know if you want further enlightenment before the meeting on 30
November.
Regards
Peter
