Followers of this discussion may remember that in my original post I
mentioned the similarity between library chairs and prie-dieu (not sure of
the plural here!). Since that post I have come across the following passage
from Mary Braddon's novel _Aurora Floyd_ (162-3), which I thought was worth
passing on.
"Talbot Bulstrode opened the door of a long chamber under the
picture-gallery - half billiard-room, half library, and almost the
pleasantest apartment in the house...
'I want to ask you about that man, Aurora,' Captain Bulstrode said, leaning
over a prie-dieu chair, and playing nervously with the carved arabesuqes of
the walnut-wodd framework."
I just wonder if we could be dealing with a library chair here.
