I have been trying to purchase a copy of the 1911 Cotton Spinners and
Manufacturers' Directory for Lancashire on behalf of a patron. The British
Library Reproduction Service says they believe this title is still under
copyright and that we must obtain written permission from the copyright
holder before they will copy it for us. I have checked with the Book Trust
and all they can tell me is that the publisher (John Worrall) ceased
publishing around 1965-67 and they don't know who owns the copyright. What
do I do now? Is there a point at which the British Library might copy it,
even if we can't determine who owns the copyright, or even if the title is
still under copyright? Does anyone out there own this edition, so that we
could simply borrow it for our patron instead of purchasing a photocopy?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
