CALL FOR PAPERS
GAMES and FESTIVALS,
with a focus on those
held in the Ancient World.
July 10 - 12, 2000
Organised under the auspices of
The Traditional Cosmology Society,
The Department of Classics,
& The School of Scottish Studies,
at The University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The conference seeks to draw together scholars and advanced postgraduate
students from the UK, USA and continental Europe in
order to consider the evidence related to games and festivals from a
multiplicity of perspectives. While the focus is on agonistics and
celebrations in ancient Rome, we encourage the submission of abstracts from
a wide variety of periods (pre-Classical to modern) and disciplines,
including: Archaeology, Anthropology, History, Art History, Literature, the
musicology of antiquity, Religious Studies, and other related fields.
Papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a
forthcoming issue of the Traditional Cosmology Society’s journal, Cosmos.
Abstracts not exceeding 500 words should be received by February 1st. Please
address all submissions (including your name, paper title, affiliation, and
