CSERGE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
BRITISH/EU ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY AND POLITICS
The Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE), which is jointly located at the
University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich and University College London, wishes to appoint a Research Associate to
investigate the impact of the European Union on British environmental policy in the period 1970-2000. The project will
be an integral part of the Centre’s work on institutional adaptation to global environmental change (GEC).
CSERGE is the ESRC’s global environmental change research centre and is recognised internationally for the high quality
of its interdisciplinary work on environmental problems. The post, which will be based at the world famous School of
Environmental Sciences at the UEA in Norwich, will be for one year in the first instance although the prospects for further
funding are good for a suitably qualified candidate. The work will involve documentary analysis, elite interviewing and
preparing material for eventual publication. Ideally, applicants should be close to completing a PhD. in environmental
politics, public policy analysis or public administration, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
The salary will be paid on the Research and Analogous 1B Scale in the range of GBP 15,736 to 17,570 (under review).
The interdisciplinary School of Environmental Sciences brings together subjects usually studied in several departments. It
is one of the longest established, largest and most experienced Schools of Environmental Sciences in the United
Kingdom. The School has over 100 graduate students studying for MSc, MPhil or PhD degrees, and around 100
research staff. It was graded ‘Excellent’ in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment and 5* by the HEFCE
Research Assessment Exercise in December 1996.
