Announcement:
------------

The search engine generator (contains complex Web spider <in
Perl souce code> to automatically retrieve Web documents,
universal indexer with index rule editor, and Web publication
module: HTML search, index, and result forms generated on the
fly; Layout of Web search engine application may be customized)
ODARS4Search 'Publisher' for Windows95/98/NT can be freely
downloaded from

http://www.odars.de/ <German> or

http://www.odars.com/ <English>

for evaluation.

A SiteSearch for your own domain is created *very* fast: just feed
your base URL to the spider and create a SiteSearch feature with
just a couple of mouse clicks. But you can as well index any other
Web resources, archives, Web sites etc. without any programming
needs.

After establishing a functional Web application on your desktop
--a browser-operated Web index with retrievable full text index
lists for picking valid search terms-- you can publish it on the
Internet or Intranet either using the ODARS4Search 'Server Package'
or --if you don't operate your own Web server-- publish it on any
Web server with installed ODARS 'server extensions' (i.e. the 'ODARS
ISP Server' - it's *FREE* for commercial *and* for institutional
ISP/IPPs, e.g., universities too) with just a mouse click!

Here's an information-rich product decription:

#####################################################################

ODARS4Search Publisher

ODARS4Search Publisher is a software suite for the local construction
and world-wide publication of Web search engines. A Web search engine
is a searchable full text index of Web documents which can be queried
via a simple HTML form by a standard Web browser. The Publisher
package combines a Web spider (a program that automatically fetches
Web pages and follows hyperlinks; also called "crawler" or "robot"),
indexer, HTML search engine generator, and Web publisher:

Entered Web addresses (URLs) are automatically retrieved from the
World Wide Web and found hyperlinks (references to other Web pages)
followed according to your spider settings ("Web crawling"). The Web
page content is indexed word by word, thereby building a searchable
full text index of the spidered Web resources. By using your favorite
Web browser, you can then query that Web search engine locally for
your own convenience and research, or publish it on the Internet/
Intranet as a public search engine service.

The Web search engine is at first published on your local PC. In this
way you can view and query the Web search engine with the same "look
and feel" as if it were already published on an Internet Web server,
i.e. querying a simple HTML search form with your favorite Web browser
as would any other Web surfer. Searching an ODARS4Search Web index is
fast and convenient because all words (full text index) of the
spidered Web resources are stored in accessible index lists to pick
from (no more queries "into the blue") with full Boolean and wildcard
search capability for complex queries. All HTML pages of the search
engine (search form, index lists, result pages etc.) are created "on
the fly", i.e., dynamically generated by the system: There is
absolutely no HTML / Perl / CGI programming required in order to build
and use Web search engines with ODARS4Search Publisher. You may
additionally freely design the layout of your Web search engine
(background, colors, graphics of search form, index lists, and result
pages) without HTML expertise. A standard layout will be generated per
default.

After establishing, designing, and testing the Web search engine on
your local PC, it may be published with a single mouse click
("Publish") on an "ODARS ISP Server" and thus made available as a
service on the Internet/Intranet. The "ODARS ISP Server" software is
necessary for the operation of ODARS Web applications on the Internet/
Intranet and may be ordered for FREE at <http://www.odars.com/>. By
letting an Internet Service Provider host your ODARS4Search Web search
engine, additional costs are to be expected. A list of ODARS ISPs
--i.e., Internet Service Providers with installed "ODARS ISP Server"
sofware-- s available at <http://www.odars.com/ISP>.

Using ODARS4Search Publisher you construct easy to use, up-to-date,
and complete (maximum precision and recall) search functions for all
Web resources (whole Web sites, mail, and newsletter archives, etc.)
which have not been made searchable (and thus transparent) by their
own full text index or working site search function. With a few mouse
clicks you may index your own Web site (by just pointing the spider to
your home URL) and simply, without any programming efforts, offer a
"SiteSearch" feature to your visitors, or you may, by maintaining a
searchable index for your own research, closely monitor any Web
site(s). You may as well feed the spider with a whole batch of URLs
covering related topics and thus generate topical Web catalogs from
the total full text indexed content of the spidered Web resources.
Searching a topical focused search engine like that is way more
efficient (related to a certain topic) than querying the vast (lots
of irrelevant "matches"!), incomplete (what have they indexed?), and
partially out-of-date ("dead" links!) Web indices of the big public
"All-in-one" Web search engines (like AltaVista, InfoSeek, HotBot etc.).
