Thanks to Brendan and William, who sent me
direct mails. I did not include Tibet in my list
in the first mail, but that ought to be considered.
The Tibet invasion by the PRC was a sign
then that Beijing at least was willing to invade
in the 1950s.
I was actually hoping for some info on the
particular book from 1954, _A History of
Modern China_ and if it had later editions
with the same claims. Or if there was in
general som literature published in the PRC
with claims going all the way back to 1840.
After all much of the Beijing clamor these days
is based on the then feelings of humiliation
and never having to give in again to, let's
call it the West. But I guess a search might
have to be done among experts on Chinese
history, perhaps in the ROC. My contacts in
the PRC are not too good.
Who knows, now it is just the "renegade" province
of Taiwan and the soon ex-Portuguese colony
of Macao, but if nationalist fervor continues,
and the comparison with Wilhelmine Germany
in the late 19th century have been made.
Best wishes
Bertil Haggman
