Dear List...
Hello, my name is Hal Palmer and I'm a new subscriber to the
int-boundaries
site. I am a marine geologist who has become involved in maritime
boundary issues as they relate to offshore activities. Most of my work is
related to continental margin matters (the continental shelf, slope and
rise) and coastal issues - many of which relate to baseline construction.
Our comapnay, MRJ Technology Solutions in Fairfax, Virginia, USA, provides
a broad spectrum of services to the government and private sector, and the
small group I am working with issues environmental and activity reports
related to coastal and offshore engineering and technology. Such data are
maintained and utilized through a GIS database which, among a variety of
oceanographic and technological components, includes maritime boundaries.
Our clients rely on our advice regarding compliance with UNCLOS Articles,
and we are thus striving to keep abreast of changes in maritime boundary
delimitation as it affects their activities (pipelines, platforms, cables,
mining, salvage, etc.).
The IBRU is a most valued source of vital information supporting our
efforts, and my compliments to Martin Pratt and the others at U. Durham
who maintain this service. I am hoping to attend the July Workshop, and
will be looking for further information on local accomodation suggestions
and the program content. I travel a lot in this job since our comapny has
no formal marketing division and the scientists and engineers pursue new
business as well as perform cleint services. I am thus somewhat tardy in
responding to Martin's welcome messsage.
I look forward to becoming more involved in the IBRU's information
exchange. The flow of information is most helpful and I hope that I will
be able to contribute in some measure.
Sincerely,
Hal Palmer
