Dear All
I wonder if anyone can help with this request from a German library
school student for a placement at a British library. Please reply
direct to her, but it would be helpful if you could also let me know
if you might be interested.
Best wishes,
Janet Wharton

Subject: practical training in a British library
Dear Dr. Wharton,
I am a German student at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne
where I study librarianship. And I would like to spend my practical
training
(which will probably take place from September 2000 to February / March
2001)
in a British library.
After correspondance with the employees of the British Council in Cologne,
they finally advised me to contact you.
By sending a short Curriculum vitae and some notes on my ideas concerning
the practical training, I want to give you some pieces of information
about
myself.

August 1998 - present: University of Applied Sciences in Cologne

Personal ideas about the practical training:
I would like to spend my practical training at a university library. After
a practical training in a public library last year, I am now interested in
this other kind of library. Condition for an appropriate library are more
than 100,000 books etc. and at least two qualified librarians (These
figures
are passeb by the university).
So far, I do not have any connections to Great Britain. That is why the
place of the library does not make any difference.
Yet, I have not chosen any centres at university. That will take place in
half a year. Probably I will concentrate on the area of use- and advisory
service. Besides I am interested in history of libraries and
librarianship.
I hope you can help me to find a place for my practical training.
Yours sincerely,
Melanie Jackenkroll
