Position Description
Executive Director
Intertribal GIS Council
This position provides oversight for all administrative and technical
functions for the Intertribal GIS Council (IGC). The executive director
reports directly to and takes policy direction from the IGC General
Board.
Specific Functions:
The IGC Executive Director position is responsible for the development
and administration of all grants, contracts, and MOUs/MOAs with
government agencies and the private sector. The Executive Director will
develop and administer a budget that is consistent with the goals and
terms of all grants and contracts awarded to/by the IGC and is in line
with Council policies as directed by the IGC General Board. This
position is additionally responsible for working closely with the
various IGC committees to foster the growth of the organization and
through outreach to enhance and publicize its services and support to
GIS users in Indian Country. The Executive Director provides overall
coordination for all IGC related activities including the annual users'
conference. This position directly supervises the administrative
assistant and with projected growth of the organization may in the
future be responsible for the supervision of a technical staff.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate for this position must meet the following
minimum requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business
or public administration, and at least two years experience in a
technical capacity with geographic information systems or a bachelor's
degree from an accredited college or university in geography, planning,
or natural resources with and emphasis in geographic information systems
and at least two years experience in a management capacity. Four years
experience in either business management or geographic information
systems may be substituted for an awarded degree.
Demonstrated ability to write and administer grants and contracts.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a budget.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comprehensive knowledge in the theory, methods, and practice of
geographic information systems.
Ability to interpret IGC organization policy and translate into a
coherent operations plan
Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and cultural awareness in working with
Indian people.
Salary Range: $40-45,000 DOE
