The GeoData Institute is an environmental research and consultancy
group based within the University of Southampton. Its activity
involves GIS, database and training support for commercial,
governmental and non-governmental organisations. We work as a
multidisciplinary team with associated academics (IT, GIS, remote
sensing and environmental)to address particular environmental
problems.
GeoData Institute is seeking to appoint a full-time post to assist
with GIS and database projects. Position responsibilities include
maintenance and development of new and existing GIS projects, data
conversion and management of data capture, support to research staff
and management of data resources. Ability in staff management,
commercial experience and bid submission is desirable. Tasks would
also include user requirements surveys, application specification and
discussion with clients.
GeoData Institute principally uses ArcView, MapInfo and Spans and
database application in MSAccess and Oracle. You should have a proven
track record in GIS application development and experience of
database design in MS Access. Experience in Avenue and MapBasic would
be desirable. Experience in programming languages and GIS training
delivery (principles and products) would be advantageous. Good
communication skills are essential, as will be the ability to work
effectively in a team.
Vacancy: Immediate
Salary: between c.£16-21k depending on qualifications and experience.
