ISC Open House during IUGG99
The International Seismological Centre will host an open house during
the 1999 IUGG General Assembly on Saturday 24 July 1999 and, if demand
is sufficient, on Sunday 25 July as well.
The International Seismological Centre has been the hub of a
world-wide effort to produce a global seismicity bulletin since 1964.
The ISC compiles data from over 2000 stations each year, and its
publications are distributed to subscribers at over 250 universities
and earth science institutes around the world. In recent years, even
more seismologists use ISC data supplied on CDs and via the Internet.
If your observatory contributes to this global effort or if you use
ISC data in your own research, this is your opportunity to visit the
Centre that pulls it all together. ISC scientific staff members plan
to be on hand to discuss preparation of the Bulletin.
The ISC is located in Thatcham, Berkshire, appoximately 90 minutes
from Birmingham. We plan to provide coach service from one or two
IUGG hotels to the ISC for a limited number guests. The coach will
depart from Birmingham at 9:00 AM, arriving at the ISC at about 10:30.
Return service will depart from the Centre at 15:00, arriving back in
Birmingham at about 16:30. Lunch will be provided at the Centre for
five pounds.
Reservations may be made before 1 June 1999 by post to International
Seismological Centre, Pipers Lane, Thatcham, Berkshire, RG19 4NS,
