Dear all:
as you probably know, the 31st International Geological Congress
2000 will be held in August 2000 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Besides
the "Fluid Inclusion" session, there will be a specialized
Symposium on "Modern Microbeam Techniques applied to Fluid
and Solid Species" organized by the IMA Working Group on
Inclusions in Minerals. In line with the Working Groupīs objectives,
the "Microbeam" Symposium focusses on techniques applied to
any inclusions in minerals (fluid, gaseous, solid), their applicability
to geological materials, and their validity to derive geological
processes in the crust and mantle.
We are therefore inviting posters contributions and abstracts for
this session. Any paper dealing with microbeam techniques such
as Laser Raman and infrared spectroscopy, LA-ICP-MS and other
laser ablation techniques, ion probe, electron microprobe,
SHRIMP, PIXE and PIGE, synchrotron micro-XRF, and others, are
all welcome.
Abstracts (maximum 250 words) should be sent to:

The printed version of the Second Circular has been distributed
recently, and can also be found at http:/www.31igc.org/. You will
also find there instructions for abstract submission, and
instructions for an electronical submission of abstracts.
Deadline is September 1st 1999 ! Please indicate your preferred
session when submitting your abstract (Mineralogy 8.4: Modern
Microbeam Techniques Applied to Fluid and Solid Species").
As you may know, each Symposium consists predominantly of
poster presentations. The oral session comprises 5 keynote
lectures which should summarize the state-of-the-art of a
respective analytical technique. We are therefore also inviting
suggestions for oral presentations which cover the strength of an
analytical technique and their geological applications. We will
explore ways to publish full length papers in an international journal.
Please contact one of us if you need clarification. Hope to see you
in Rio next year !
