Hi,
Now the new year's arrived I need to clear out a number of e-mail
addresses where people have moved on, or changed their e-mail
address.
Hopefully, I wont remove anyone who's still receiving mail, but there
is the possibility I may accidentally do so. If this is the case you
should get an e-mail confirmation from the list server.
However, some of you are subscribed twice (even three times). So as
a check that everyone who want's to be on the list is still receiving
mail I'll send a test message after I've deleted the bad addresses.
So if you receive this message and not the test message e-mail me
([log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]) and
I'll put you back on the list.
If you are subscribed twice or more you will be receiving duplicate
(triplicate) messages. There may be a reason for this so I will not
tamper with people who are subscribed twice or more. If, after
Christmas and the New Year, you have had enough of seeing
double/triple then e-mail me from the address that you want to get
list messages - I'll do the rest.
A few useful tips about the list
-------------------------------------------------
1. If you want to see who else is subscribed to the list and get
hold of their e-mail addresses (don't worry only list members can do
this) then send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
review geo-mineralisation
stop
-------------------------------------------------
2. If your going on holiday/field work/business you can suspend your
subscription to the list by sending the following e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
suspend mail geo-mineralisation
stop
to resume getting messages send the following e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
resume mail geo-mineralisation
stop
-------------------------------------------------
3. You can view old messages on the web by going to
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/geo-mineralisation/archive.html
This contains an archive of all messages sent to the list over the
last year and has a search engine. So, for example, if you have
forgotten what to do to register for this year's SGA-IAGOD meeting
-- this is the place to look. If you don't have web access then the
same thing can be done by sending e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
get mime geo-mineralisation yyyy-mm
stop
where yyyy is four digit year format, e.g. 1999
and mm is two digit month format , e.g. 01
this gets the archive as an e-mail attachment, to get it as plain
e-mail change the message to
get geo-mineralisation yyyy-mm
stop
-------------------------------------------------
4. Rather than getting messages one by one you can get them in
digest form (20 at a time). This means you would get one largish
e-mail approximately once every two months (our average number of
message is 0.3 per day). To turn this feature on send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
set geo-mineralisation digest
stop
to turn it off send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
set geo-mineralisation nodigest
stop
4. To see all of the commands that you can use take a look at
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/syntax.html
if you don't have web access then send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask]
with the message
help
stop
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year
Cheers
Jon
