Hi Gianna,
In the GAC Short Course Volume 11 (1994): (Alteration and Alteration
Processes Associated with Ore-Forming Systems), a good review article by
Leitch, C. and Lentz, D. R. appear: "The Gresens Approach to Mass
Balance Constraints of Alteration Systems:Methods, Pitfalls, Examples".
In their article they recommend the use of GRES or NEWGRES, (see Leitch
and Day, 1990; Computers and Geoscience, v. 16, p. 926-932). According
to the article these programs are Turbo pascal programs available from:
C. Leitch, Geological Survey of Canada, 100 West Pender Street,
Vancouver, B.C. V6B 1R8.
In my own research (geochemical alteration associated with Au-bearing
quartz veins) I have used an Excel-spreadsheet for these type of
calculations.
I have a list of references on mass balance calculations associated with
gold-bearing quartz vein systems.
So don't hesitate to mail me about these references or other questions
about mass balance calculations.
Good luck!
/Anton
