Have you tried modelling programs such as EQ3/6, PHREEQ -- These may
contain data for Ni speciation. You say you've exhausted computer
searchs on geo-ref, but have you tried the chemical literature
(Chemical Abstracts, Science Citation Index) -- Records 7 and 8 look
particularly useful. I've just had a quick look SCI and came up with
a number of possible candiates.
