and USA.
7 - 8 April 1999
Galway
Hydrocarbon-bearing Inclusions in Crustal Rocks - Study Methods, Applications &
Case Histories.
This two-day meeting is intended to bring together fluid inclusion research
workers with expertise in the analysis and interpretation of hydrocarbon
inclusions. It will therefore encompass both reviews of the subject matter
(mostly by keynote speakers) and the results of new and ongoing research. The
meeting aims to present research on the range of hydrocarbon fluid inclusion
types encountered in nature (e.g. from methane to oil bearing varieties) and
on the geological settings where hydrocarbon inclusions are encountered for
example, those present in crystalline basement settings and in Mesozoic
sedimentary basins. The meeting therefore welcomes contributions from
researchers working with hydrocarbon inclusions in crustal rocks from any part
of the geological timescale.
The meeting will take place in the National University of Ireland, Galway
(founded in 1845) under the aegis of the Mineralogical Society. A reception
will be arranged for the evening of the 6th of April and will take place in the
James Mitchell Geology Museum located on the campus. Galway is a vibrant place
situated on the west coast of Ireland and is the fastest growing "town" in
Europe. The intermingling of medieval, Spanish and Gaelic cultures against the
backdrop of Galway Bay's superb geology and scenery make Galway a very
interesting and stimulating location for the meeting. Christopher Columbus came
here in 1477 on a trade mission so why not follow in his foot steps on a
mission to learn more about hydrocarbon inclusions in crustal rocks.
Keynote speakers: Dr. A. Aplin, Prof. B. Bodnar, Dr. B. Burruss, Dr. J.
Parnell, Dr. J. Pironon and Prof. A. Rankin.
The convenor is Dr. Martin Feely, Department of Geology, National University of
Ireland, Galway. phone 353 091 524411 ext. 2129; e-mail :
