Dear All
I would like to advertise the fact that the Structural And Metamorphic
Research Institute (the SAMRI) within the School of Earth Sciences at James
Cook University has at least one and possibly 2 PhD scholarships available
for outstanding students from any country but Australia, to work on some
aspect of the structural and metamorphic development of the Appalachians
commencing in 2000. Any aspect of deformation and/or metamorphism along the
length this orogen can be studied for the PhD, provided the country rocks
contain porphyroblasts.
The students should have an excellent academic record and be
regarded as having outstanding research potential by their supervisors or
academic referees. They should have, for example, a first class honours if
they come from the British or Irish systems, an 8 from the Dutch system, a
high Sehr Gut from the German system or a GPA of 3.5 or better from the
American system. The scholarship covers their fees and provides a generous
living allowance for a maximum of 3.5 years. Could you please suggest to
any student, whom you think might be suitable for these scholarships, that
they email [log in to unmask] and talk about their research interests with
him as soon as possible.
Thanks
Tim
