R.A. Jamieson, Department of Earth Sciences, Dalhousie University, Halifax, N.S.
I am looking for well qualified Ph.D. and/or M.Sc. students interested in
research in metamorphism and tectonic processes, with particular
applications to problems in the Grenville and Appalachian orogens.
Applicants should have field experience in structurally complex areas and
should have completed classes in Metamorphic Petrology, Structural Geology,
and Tectonics with grades of B+ or better. (UK students - upper second or
better; US students - GPA of 3.7 or better) Specific projects include:
Ph.D.: Field relations, petrology, structure, and geochemistry of migmatites
in the Central Gneiss Belt, Grenville orogen, Ontario. Problems include the
conditions of melting, source(s) of fluid, geochemistry of leucosomes, time
of migmatite formation relative to regionally significant episodes of
compression and extension, and tectonic implications of migmatite formation.
M.Sc.: Metamorphism and geochemistry of ca. 1450 Ma megacrystic granitoid
orthogneisses, Georgian Bay region, Grenville orogen, Ontario. Problems
include petrology and geochemistry of one or more of these bodies, and
assessment of tectonic setting of intrusion.
