University of Oxford
Queen Elizabeth House
Refugee Studies Programme
Development Officer
Academic-related Administrative Grade 3
Salary stlg24,591-stlg29,048 p.a.
The RSP is the only institution of its kind in Europe and has won an international
reputation for its research and teaching on the causes and consequences of forced
migration and for its commitment to understanding the needs and aspirations of some
of the world's most powerless and disadvantaged people.
The RSP has an impressive track record of raising funding for academic posts,
research projects and core costs. It seeks an experienced and effective Fundraiser who,
in conjunction with the University's central development operation, will devise and
implement a successful fundraising strategy for the next five years and ensure that the
Programme achieves its funding objectives.
This post will suit someone who is keen to play a leading strategic and developmental
role within a dynamic and prestigious organisation. The position offers the opportunity
to work with some of the world's leading figures in the fields of refugee studies and
refugee assistance, and to help influence public policy on issues relating to conflict,
forced migration, economic development and human rights.
Ideally, candidates should have experience of working in a related area: in an NGO or
international agency, with human rights and humanitarian issues, or in an academic
institution. Candidates should certainly demonstrate an interest in issues relating to
forced migration. Given the urgency of the funding need, the ideal candidate will have
a strong natural drive towards getting on with the job and being able to deliver results
quickly. Excellent communication skills are essential. The post is for two years in the
first instance, with the expectation of renewal.
Those wishing to discuss the post informally are welcome to contact the Director, Dr
David Turton, on 01865 270724.
Applications, including a detailed C.V. and the names and addresses of two referees,
should be sent to the Administrator, Queen Elizabeth House, 21 St Giles, Oxford OX1
3LA Tel: (01865) 273599/Fax: (01865) 273607 from whom further particulars can be
obtained. Candidates should request these before applying. The closing date is
Monday 15 March.
