I`m on holidays (Zenica) and going around.
But today I could finally find an internet
connection service. It`s really funny, good funky and coffe.
Well I would like to say something about the matter of
semiotics, sign and symbols.
I have read interesting contributions lately on this subject
(Martin, Boris and Sergio ones for examples).
The subject of thinking is rather interesting to me, because
I`m trying to develope the raw (but lucid) ontology of Peirce
into a complex theory of communication.
Peirce`s triad is in fact a very good model in my opinion since
it breaks with the dual tradition of western thinking which goes
from greeks through catholic philosophy (Agostino, Scolastics and
many others) till our days.
Peirce says that the firstness, the secondness and the thirdness belong
to the same domain, since their relationship, philosophically to speak,
is a relationship of necessity.
Thus it has no sense to think to them as isolate self-sufficient
elements.
Eco for example tries to force Peirce by excluding one of the element,
the being, saying that also if no being is present the necessity is
given by the necessary relation between sign and meaning. This is
then communication, per-se, without humans. It seems to me really
a metaphysical and static view of communication.
Meme isn`t a mere "unit of information".
I have seen a man playing mimic along the street of
Amsterdam and everytime he played was something different,
something else, creative developing cannot be describe by
the concept of information, since it is nothing but a statistical category,
which can only says it something new,
but it must repeat it and categorise it to fix it.
(I think that if an academics tells to him that he is
a unity of information he get angry! ;)) )
Peirce on the contrary aimed to get the complexity of communication in
its being a dynamical and always-changing phenomenon.
This means that we need a ne w model of communication based not upon
sign/meaning realtionship but on a complex model able to describe
and explaining the whole dynamical context of communication.
I think that otherwise we would always make violence to
communication.
