Chomsky was not being referred to for his linguistics work, but for his
more widely known and influential political writing. In fact Chomsky has
got himself into trouble with some people by taking free speech and
tolerance very seriously, defending the rights of people he strongly
disagrees with. How has he demonstrated intolerance - apart from
disagreeing with (which is not itself intolerance) some others over
linguistics ?
>But this is not a Chomsky bashing list, so I'll get off of all that,
Having just done so - you now excuse yourself from having to justify it.

The thread clearly developed in a jokey way, but has begun to get into
some more substantive and fundamental issues.

Nobody thinks they have (and who could blame them, given the nature of some
of it), but it is certainly healthy to remind ourselves from time to time
that there are more important matters going on than some of the language
games we get so immersed in.
