Would anyone happen to know a closed form solution that can be used to
determine the stiffness of a THICK-walled cylinder under diametrically opposite
loads (where t=OD/6, typically). The load would be applied by rigid 'plates' to
stop local dimpling from occuring.
I guess the solution would involve ovalising (similar to thin walled cylinders) plus
local Hertzian contact effects.
I have seen the information posted regarding thin-walled cylinders (Rick
Woods, May 99), but wondered if anyone knew how to solve for the thick-
walled case?
Thanks in advance,
Steff Evans
