Practitioners' Workshop on Scale Issues and EIA

Aims of this workshop
This one-day workshop provides a rare opportunity to discuss (via plenary presentations and small group discussions) how the
selection of scale in impact assessment can affect the overall outcome of an EIA in terms of the type of impacts found, their
magnitude and significance, and ultimately the type of mitigation measures recommended and implemented. The workshop will
discuss this problem and the need for scale issues to be made explicit within EIA. It will also discuss whether guidelines on the
use of scale in EIA are needed and possible. By the end of the workshop it is hoped that a consensus will be reached on
research and practice recommendations regarding
scale issues and EIA.

This workshop is of interest to: environmental consultants, local government, central government, developers, environmental and
conservation agencies, environmental groups, and researchers.
