Part-time Research Assistants (Field work): Environmental Audit of
Construction and Craft Products in the Highlands and Islands
We are looking for three self-motivated, outward going and
environmentally aware people to join our research team on the above
project as fieldworkers. The candidates will ideally be graduates in
environmental, construction, design studies or the equivalent and
will be familiar with simple computer databasing and networking.
Candidates should preferably have some knowledge of environmental
issues in relation to construction and craft products used in
buildings.
The outreach project is jointly funded by The Robert Gordon
University and the European Union ERDF fund. It involves research
assistants identifying and interviewing all companies and individuals
who produce construction and craft products in the Highland and
Islands.
The producers will be helped to complete an environmental
assessment of their products using a standard pro-forma. This
information will be entered by the research assistants into a
pre-defined central database and analysed by environmental
consultants. The information generated will help producers to market
their products more effectively and specifiers to obtain accurate
information on the environmental performance of products produced
in the region.
Each assistant may be based in one of three Further Education
Institutions (FEIs) in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (Thurso,
Inverness, Fort William) and will be required to travel extensively to
meet producers in that area. Alternatively assistants may use their
own home computing facilities providing these are compatible with
the requirements of the University. Familiarity with areas of the
Highlands and Islands would be advantageous.
The project is led by the Ecological Design Group (EDG) in the Scott
Sutherland School of Architecture, The Robert Gordon University in
Aberdeen, which will act as home-base to all 3 research assistants
carrying out the fieldwork. Research assistants will be supported by
a project officer and project manager based at the School whom they
will meet regularly as part of a team.
A clean driving licence is required and access to a private car is
preferable.
The contracts are for a six month period from December 13th 1999
to May 13th 1999 and are 18.5 hours a week (50% fulltime).
Flexable
working is available with this post to suit individual requirements
by negotiation. Assistants will be expected to time-manage their
