The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee
has today placed the following advertisement in the media.
Environmental Audit Committee Specialist
Two year appointment (with the possibility of extension
for a further two years)
The Environmental Audit Committee requires a
Committee Specialist to provide briefing and analyses in
support of its work. The Committee*s remit is: to
consider to what extent the policies and programmes of
government departments and non-departmental public
bodies contribute to environmental protection and
sustainable development: to audit their performance
against such targets as may be set for them by Ministers;
and to report thereon to the House.
The Committee Specialist will be a member of a team of
five. Principal duties will include giving assistance to the
Clerk of the Committee in preparing briefing material and
drafting reports for the Committee in support of its
inquiries; liaising with the media; organising meetings or
presentations and accompanying the Committee on visits.
Applications are invited from candidates with at least a 2:1
degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant
subject, together with several years* relevant experience.
An interest in public policy and administration is essential.

Starting salary for the post will be in the range of
UKP19,087 to UKP 26,456 pa, according to
qualifications and experience. The House of Commons
offers a non-contributory pension scheme in respect of
personal benefits, and leave is generous. The appointment
will commence in June 1999. Strict political impartiality is
required of all House of Commons staff, and the person
appointed will be expected to refrain from engagement in
political activities for the duration of the appointment.
