I found this gem from the third webpage listed above.
"Plutonium Dioxide in the environment WILL cause death, illness, and
genetic mutations for centuries, not just to humans but to potentially all
life forms, including the other mammals, fish, and fowl that many of us
use for sustenance (i.e., eat them)."
Nice fear mongering here. First, it is not certain the the Cassini space
probe will hit the Earth. I have noticed that in all the pages I have
read that you recommended (I couldn't get into the second...website and
didn't care to keep trying) that none of them put any probabilities on the
various scenarios where the Cassini space probe would enter the Earth's
atmosphere.
Second, while I suppose the above is true, it is also true that we have
already dumped larger amounts of Plutonium into the atmosphere in the form
of respirable particles. I suppose one could argue that all of todays
problems are the result of these particles, but that seems to me to be at
best an unproveable hypothesis and well frankly a bit nuts (reminds me of
the joke about the college Prof. who had a theory that explained
everything).
Finally, we must also remember that water in the environment kills as does
oxygen. Thousands drowned every year in backyard pools and many die in
fires. The question is acceptable risk and until those webpages start
putting up some data and analysis...they are just junk.
