I would like to respond to Pual for his valuable comments:
I agree that cu and phiu are not proper parameters, particularly the phi_u
parameter. One can arge that how the water pressure can be related to a
friction angle? Perhaps we should scrap this parameter in the future.
I also agree that these parameters are related and CSSM is a better framework
to consistently explain soil behaviour.
I am doing this exercise for undergradate teaching, and unfortunately we
still do not introduce a great deal of CSSM for undergardate teaching. This
is in fact in line with the current practice (at least in Oz) where CSSM is
not commonly used. May be, this need to change for the future!
