RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Reference RPBS 0034)
Fixed term contract for 36 months. The level will depend on the
qualifications and previous experience of the successful applicant.
Salary: £15737 - £19039

The Department is seeking to appoint a Research Associate in the
Centre for the Economics and Management of Aquatic Resources (CEMARE)
for a period of 36 months starting on 1 January 2000, (or as soon as
possible thereafter) to assist with an EU-funded project entitled
"Technical efficiency in EU fisheries: Implications for monitoring and
management through effort controls". The position will require the
compilation of economic data and the derivation of production
functions and production frontiers from panel and/or time series data.
A high level of econometric skills is required for the post.
Applications with experience with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) are
also encouraged to apply.
An opportunity may also be available to register for a part time PhD.
DETAILED LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1). Assist in the compilation/collection of economic data relating to
physical characteristics of the fishing fleets in the English Channel
and the North Sea; catch and effort information; and other relevant
data. This will require co-ordinating data extraction with the Centre
for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science as well as some
personal interviews with fishers.
2) Econometric analysis of the fisheries production functions and
frontiers using a combination of economic and biological data;
3) Estimate the technical efficiency of the fishing fleets using DEA
and stochastic production frontiers;
4). Contribute to report writing and academic journal articles;
5). Such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of
Department/Section.
