We are looking for a recent Ph.D. graduate with career interests in
collaboration studies, human information behavior and collaboration
technology for an innovative postdoctoral position. The position will
focus on designing and implementing studies to identify factors that
facilitate and/or impede collaboration across geographic, disciplinary and
organizational boundaries. Candidates should have broad expertise in the
social and/or behavioral sciences, with strengths in research
methods, and additional strengths and interests in human information
behavior, socio-technical design and computer-mediated communication.
The postdoc will be a member of a team of faculty and graduate student who
are conducting research on collaboration in the context of the
newly-funded NSF Science & Technology Center for Environmentally
Responsible Solvents. The postdoc will also be a member of a larger
research community at the School of Information and Library Science
(http://www.ils.unc.edu) which is participating in several research
projects investigating aspects of collaboration and the use of technology
to support collaboration (e.g., see http://www.cs.unc.edu/Research/nano).
During the research process, the postdoc will work with university and
corporate scientists and graduate students in chemistry and chemical
engineering, network and computer technology staff, and other researchers
to understand their perspectives, needs and expectations with respect to
collaboration. The postdoc may help develop grant proposals, and may lead
or participate in K-12 outreach programs that focus on some aspect of
collaboration and collaboration technology. Excellent presentation and
writing skills are required.
The initial postdoc appointment will be for 12 months, with yearly
extensions possible based on performance.
