Critical Appraisal Skills Training

A conference to train people in finding, appraising and acting on
evidence of effectiveness has been organised from 5-9th July 1999 in the
University of East London. This will offer a full range of CASP training
and will include a day of innovative teaching demonstrations and some
foreign language workshops (if there is sufficient demand). The
conference will include workshops on finding evidence, systematic
reviews, guidelines, quality assurance and training to teach, run and
administrate workshops.
Upon completion of the conference and training, delegates will be well
equipped to begin cascading critical appraisal skills in their own
countries.
The price of the conference and training programme is £750.00 per
person, including accommodation (for non-UK delegates) and meals. There
are 25 places available. CASP may be able to provide guidance on
obtaining bursaries to enable hard-pressed colleagues to attend the
conference. Accommodation will be found locally for those wishing to
take advantage of lower prices. Visits to the Tower of London are
included.
Programme
Day 1 Introduction, Observe Systematic Review Workshop, Plenary Session,
Finding the Evidence Workshop, Prepare for Training the Trainer
Day 2 'Training the Trainer' (feedback skills), Plenary Session,
Systematic Reviews workshop (1 participant to take feedback), Prepare
for 'Training the Trainer' day
Day 3 CASPfest - a day to meet with colleagues throughout the UK and to
learn from each other, discuss ideas and display best practice.
Day 4 Training the Trainer (introductory talk skills), Plenary Session,
Quality Assurance or Practice makes Perfect workshop
Day 5 Run Systematic Review workshop or participate in Guidelines
workshop, Plenary Session, 'Training the Administrator' or training for
Finding the Evidence.
