Rather than give you exactly what you requested (since my opinion isn't
probably as good as the consensus views of others), I would suggest a few
websites that rate other health websites, e.g.:

www.hon.ch <http://www.hon.ch>

www.sixsenses.com <http://www.sixsenses.com>

www.medmatrix.com <http://www.medmatrix.com>

www.w3.nai/~w/a/health.htm <http://www.w3.nai/~w/a/health.htm>

www.mdchoice.com <http://www.mdchoice.com>

www.healthlibrary.mcgill.ca <http://www.healthlibrary.mcgill.ca>

You can also find others linked from the electronic version of the 3/6/99
BMJ article by Kim, et al.

Happy hunting.

Subject:	compiling a consensus list of excellent (and
poor?) websites for health education/promotion

		Hello,

I am looking for a link-list of websites for consumers,
which are rated by
an expert (or board of experts) as being especially
excellent (or especially
poor, or "adequate") for consumer health education. Any
ideas....?

In addition, could everybody send me (mailto:[log in to unmask]) some
URLs of
consumer health education websites that he/she would rate
falling into one
		of the following categories:

		- Excellent: This web site is an excellent source of
accurate health
information for consumers. The target group will be able to
easily access
and understand the information contained in this site. The
web site can be
		recommended without hesitation.
		- Adequate: While this web site provides relevant
information and can be
navigated without much trouble, it might not be the best
site available. If
another source cannot be located, this site will provide
good information to
your clientele. Care should be taken to discuss with your
clientele what
information was found on this web site and what information
is still needed.
		- Poor: This site should not be recommended to your
clientele. Validity and
reliability of the information can not be confirmed. All
information on the
site might not be accessible. Look for another web site to
prevent false or
		partial information from being read.

If everybody could send me 1-5 or so websites per category,
I could try to
		compile a consensus list.

Please also briefly indicate your name, addresss,
professional affiliation
and experience. Webmasters and anybody else with conflict of
interest please
refrain from recommending your own websites.

In a project I would like to compile a kind of "consensus"
list of some
		exemplary excellent/adequate/poor health education websites,
against which
rating instruments could be validated. Contributors to this
project will be
		acknowledged.

		Thanks in advance
