You may like to take a look at G. Cumberbatch and D. Howitt, 'Images of
Disability on Television' (London: Routledge, 1991).
Also, I recollect that the subject of media depictions of the disabled
is addressed by a couple of contributors to J. Bryant and D. Zillmann
(eds), 'Media Effects: Advances in Theory and Research' (Hillsdale, NJ:
Lawrence Erlbaum, 1994). Unfortunately, a quick glance suggests that
these discussions are not mentioned in the index. Notwithstanding this,
B. S. Greenberg's and J. E. Brand's contribution on 'Minorities and the
mass media: 1970s to 1990s' (pp. 273-314) seems a good bet.
