MEDIA EVENTS
a THREE DAY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ORGANISED BY THE UNIVERSITIES OF
STIRLING AND WESTMINSTER
JUNE 30TH - JULY 3RD 2000
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTMINSTER, HARROW CAMPUS
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Conference will consider:
+ the detailed media coverage of particular kinds of event: e.g.
sporting, ceremonial, musical events, and news coverage of disasters
(natural and human) war and violence.
+ the widern implications of media events, especially issues relating
to: publicness, spectacle, spectatorship, liveness, presence
('being-there'), narrative, history, ritual, witnessing and the spatial
and temporal characteristics of events.
+ Keynote speakers include: Jay Blumler, James Carey, Daniel Dayan,
Elihu Karz, Tamar Liebes, Philip Schlesinger and Paddy Scannell.
+ Papers should be of a length which can be presented in 20 minutes.
Please send 200 word abstracts of papers for consideration. clsoing
dates for abstracts Monday, 6th March, 2000. Those whose papers are
accepted will be notified within four weeks of that date.
