Further to the CHEST announcement regarding the extension of the SPSS
Agreement, below are clarifications to some of the items contained in
the SPSS Overview, which can be found on the CHEST Web pages at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/software/spss3/overview.html

4. Products Covered

"The Agreement covers all SPSS software products". The products
covered in the Agreement are all those supplied by the SPSS Business
Intelligence Division. These now include some products which were
previously supplied by SPSS Science Division and could only be
purchased through the 'Science Products Academic Partner Scheme'. These
products are:

Sample Power
Neural Connection
QI Analyst
ALLCLEAR
Deltagraph
Diamond

With regard to "ALLCLEAR", this refers to the one product and not the
ALLCLEAR "bundle" (which includes "Clear Orgcharts", "Clear Process",
"EasyFlow" and "NodeMap").

15. Pricing

"PowerMac" - Sites may cancel their PowerMac licences up to 60 days before
each annual renewal is due - the 5 year commitment does not apply to the
PowerMac platform. Payments must be made for whole years with no pro-rata
credit.

"One Server Product installation on UNIX, Sun or HP" - The "One Server
Product" covers one server installation. For example, it allows for use
of SPSS on one Solaris server only, not all Solaris systems.

SPSS have informed CHEST that SPSS UNIX is Y2K compliant for Digital,
HP, Solaris, AIX and MVS. OVMS will be tested and problems notified but
not fixed. SPSS have plans to continue to develop the UNIX platform
with a major upgrade during year 2000.

"All Options above including multi installations on any Server
platforms" - Under this option a site can have as many UNIX, Sun or HP
server installations as required for the total cost of £12,950.

"Developers Kit" - This is no longer available separately as the
functionality has been integrated within the Base Module (scripting).

SPSS (UK) Additional Products Availability List

"Data Entry Station" - a CHEST Site Licence p.a. price is "N/A" because
the "Data Entry Builder" comes with a station. If stations are required
for data security reasons they will be supplied free of charge.

"SPSS Utilities" - The Utilities package is peculiar to the UK, being a
number of commonly used functions such as recode into equal groups and
label, reverse auto recode, deduping, formatting non standard postcodes
etc.

General comments

Expiry of Licence keys - CHEST were incorrectly advised that all licence
keys expire in August 1999. This is not the case as expiry of licence keys
can vary with each site.

SPSS are sending a letter with a new contract to those sites whose
licence is due for renewal between July 1999 and December 1999 . Sites
will be given a choice to either return a form now and then be invoiced
by SPSS when their existing licence expires, or cancel their current
licence and start a new licence from now.

Outstanding Issues

Some issues currently remain unclarified - for example the position
regarding DOS licensing. These issues are being pursued with SPSS and we
will announce the results as soon as they are resolved.
