My name is Karina Williamson. I'm Honorary Fellow in the Dept. of
English Literature, and probably the oldest e- mailer on this line.
I've taught Eng. Lit at the universities of Oxford, Edinburgh, and
Uppsala (Sweden). My interest in Caribbean literature dates back to
the early 1960s when Ken Ramchand (then an undergraduate at
Edinburgh) and I (then a youngish lecturer) discovered a common
enthusiasm for the subject (I was supposed to be tutoring him in C17
English poetry at the time).
I was a member of CAM, wrote a biography of Roger Mais which Longmans
in the late 1970s didn't want to publish and I didn't persist with,
and have had occasional articles published. I have supervised
numerous successful graduate theses in the Caribbean field, but have
seldom had the chance to teach it at undergraduate level because of
lack of institutional support at Oxford where I spent most of my
academic career.
My current interest is in cocnepts of history in Caribbean writing.
