National Register of Artists Now on CD ROM
Axis, the national contemporary visual arts information service, is
delighted to announce that the Axis database is now available on CD ROM.
The Axis database is an invaluable resource for people wanting to research
or locate British artists for commission, exhibition, collaboration, and
other work opportunities.
The Axis database on CD ROM features over 9,000 images of artwork by over
2,700 contemporary visual artists and craftspeople living/working in
Britain. Artists range from well known artists like Rachel Whiteread,
Callum Innes, Ana Maria Pacheco, David Nash, David Mach, Basil Beattie and
Michael Craig Martin to newly established and emerging artists.
The Axis database on CD ROM is a convenient, portable and easy way to
search the Axis database. The Axis database on CD ROM features nine
search options: artist, region, artwork type, materials, area of work,
characteristics, techniques, approach and a free text search.
Created by MindWorx, the Axis database on CD ROM was a natural step in
Axis development. "The Axis database on CD ROM was created in response to
requests from users who wanted a portable version of the Axis database,"
said Kate Hainsworth, Chief Executive of Axis. "With high quality images,
fast searches and book-marking, the Axis database on CD ROM is ideal for
research and presentation purposes."
The Axis database on CD ROM can be purchased from Axis for 175 (for
institutions/libraries including VAT), 75 (for
individuals/charities/schools) and 17.50 for artists on the Axis database.

To run the Axis database on CD ROM, you need: a multimedia Pentium PC with
16 MB of RAM, a CD ROM drive and 800x600 High Color display, Microsoft
Windows 95 operating system or later, 10 MB of available hard disk space
and a mouse.

www.axisartists.org.uk, at Axispoint terminals throughout the United
Kingdom and via the Axis Information Service on
Tel 0930 170 130 (UK only - 0.50/minute).
Axis is a non-profit making organisation funded by the Arts Councils of
England, Scotland and Wales, and seven regional arts boards. The Axis
database on CD ROM was funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and
