was much 'tickled' by the pete smith & lyn richards posting. i by the
way am a bit of c.middleton fan too. in respect of academic discourse -
i'll try to clarify my viewpoint as simplisticly as i am no doubt
capable of (note that dangling proposition - gawd)
what i suspect is that a language of indirectness untowardedly supports
the interests of power regardless of its creators intentions. what i
find so curious to observe is that many of the poets of the tradition,
who were mainly more conservative in politics than now, yet had an
engagement with the supple of the language that is mostly missing at
present.
