For those interested in the viewpoint of an American first-time visitor
to the CCCP there is a 5 page report on the Poetics List at Buffalo,
posted Sunday May 2nd. The writer has some disappointment that the
event is not, in fact, a conference (where could he have got that idea?)
and gives helpful descriptions of most of the readings. Shortest shrift
is given Andrea Brady - "a by-the-numbers post-LangPo exercise". This
dismissive blast is not the usual tenor of the piece. On the whole, it
shows description can be useful even while the opinions expressed go
against one's own.
And, now for something completely different.
LOCAL REPORT: PROSPECT FROM HALE-VINNEY POND,
PINANTAN LAKE, 2015 MAY 4 1999.
Gorgayse the subjective estate and all its simples.
To wit: on Rock Face, over Dome Hills and past Kamloops Lake
west, mist partly veils a low sun; north to Tod and Lolo
a falling too but to south and east still uncluttered daylight.
Looking westwards a late snow reaches, slow
precipitation, sedate.
Spectrum escapes form.
Unbowed, colours bleed clouds and their issue. Violet, blue,
yellow hover and flow; orange, red in incontinent display
as snow thickens.
A day that leaves its dead unburied.
Not twenty feet from atop a lodgepole pine,
irony squawks its mateless squawk.
Cheers, Pete.
