dear bfdg member
i just wanted to say thanks to stephen french and his team for
organising a very interesting BFDG meeting in sheffield. i had a
great time and felt that i learned a great deal.... not only some
good science but that sheffield is so near derbyshire (thanks to
marie and richard for taking a few of us out into the countryside)...
during the conference, i was thinking about the last time we held
the annual BFDG meeting in Sheffield, and sad as i am i still have
the programme from 1991 (8-10 April). and then i got thinking
about my first BFDG which was at Sussex in 1984 (the
proceedings of which went into a book, edited by Bob Boakes,
David Popplewell & Mike Burton "Eating Habits", 1987). anyway, i
can't be that sad since i have not kept my programme from 1984,
despite the presence of some of the big names in this field (you
know who you are).
finally, i began to wonder when BFDG first started and if anyone is
old enough to remember where, when and with whom? tim
kirkham remembers meetings in the late 70's, so if there are even
older (i mean senior) colleagues out there who can supply us with
a potted history, i am volunteering to write a piece for the BFDG
newsletter.
i look forward to seeing you all again in reading,
anyone wishing to pass on their memories of their first BFDG
meeting, as well as information from the elder statesmen/women
about the beginnings of the group, please pass them on to me via
e.mail,
best wishes
