"18th Cent. Textbooks: Sources of Knowledge, Tools of Ideology"
I'm seeking papers about 1700s textbooks written on any subject
(history, science, math, medicine, music, theology, etc.), hoping that
our panel can begin to discuss textbooks as a politicized genre with
gender, class and nationalist implications. The books need not have been
written in English, although if they were translated into other
languages at some point, it would be interesting in terms of
cross-cultural influences.
Please feel free to contact me with questions and ideas. There's a
lot of flexibility within this category since textbooks were only
beginning to gain definition as such.
