THE ENGLISH ROMANTICS:
ROMANTICISM AND (POST)COLONIAL SPACES
Until 1 July I will be accepting proposals for the English
Romantics Panel of the 9th Annual Central New York Conference on
Language and Literature to be held 3-5 October at Cortland College
of the State University of New York (this is central New York at
the peak of fall foliage). The English Romantics panel is scheduled for Monday,
4 October, 1:30- 12:00.
The panel will be organized around theorizations of relationships
between British Romanticisms and colonialism/imperialism and/or
British Romanticism and postcoloniality. I am particularly
interested in papers that address both of these issues (teasing out
both emancipatory and imperial elements of a text) with an emphasis
on space in any manifestation, including the space of idealism,
cartography, home, and painting (to name just a few possibilities).
This is a congenial and internationally attended conference.

SCHOOL OF ENGLISH
The School of English wishes to appoint a
nineteenth-century specialist with research interests in
either Romantic or Victorian literature. The successful
candidate is likely to possess, or be near completing, a
doctorate, have some university teaching experience, and
have made a successful start in academic publication.
Starting salary will be up to £20,000 in the range
£17,600-£29,600.
The post will be advertised in THE GUARDIAN on 6 July, and
potential candidates are asked to follow the advice there
regarding application procedure.
