Good Morning, my name is Christian Pante, and I'm a student of the foreign
languages faculty at the University of Trento, northern Italy (Trentino
Alto-Adige).I'm writing a research thesis about English Broadside Ballads,
about "Child" ballads, specifically. The work will focus on three titles:
"The Elfin Knight" and its variants (Child#2), "The three Ravens" and its
variants (Child#26), "The Unquiet Grave" and its variants (Child#78). The
aim of my research is to analyze the "broadside Ballads " "phenomenon" and
these three ballads under an historical and a musical aspect: I would like
to "individuate" the "links" between the original versions of the three
titles and the "folk revival" versions (1950s and 1960s) of the same
titles, a kind of "tale" about how things have changed...unfortunately I'm
not a skilled scholar (not even a scholar) and I'm finding many
difficulties in my research; it would be very kind of you if you could give
me some information (particular bibliography, and so on) about "broadside"
ballads...I've got a specific question too: the third ballad that I've
chosen to analyze ("The Unquiet Grave") is "giving" me some
problems...after having checked F.J.Child's "English and Scottish popular
ballads" (as well as B.H.Bronson's "The Traditional tunes of the Child
ballads" and a lot of internet web pages on the argument) I couldn't get to
know if this ballad has or not a "broadside" version. Could you help me
answering this question or telling me where I could find out the answer?
Please answer me back as soon as you can, it's very important.
Thank you,
Christian (my e-mail is:[log in to unmask])
