Sorry, that was John Purser, 'Scotland's Music', p. 157, Edinburg, 1992.
My recollection of his statement was also far from exact.
'There is no popular ballad commemorating Culloden. It was too horrific.
The scale of the tragedy and the terrible ensuing brutality of the
English was beyond reckoning.'
